Feature Gardens

Before....

Backyard Blitz

Tom from Ipswich Queensland sent in these pictures of his back yard, and this is how it started out.

A lot of overgrown weeds and a steep slope down to a pathway.

It didn't look too good, so Tom decided to make some improvements and install a Moss Water Garden.

In the garden at the very top, a 300 litre pre-formed pond was placed in the ground. It overflows into a stepping-stone stream made with liner material, which makes its way down the slope.

At the end of the stream, it goes into an underground pipe which takes the water under a garden path.

Down the slope we go...

This photo was taken from the top, looking down.

You can see the pond quite clearly now, and the neat row of garden blocks lining the stream.

A generous thickness of woodchip mulch all over the garden beds keeps weeds at bay and compliments the whole garden.

At the end of the garden path...

In the lower garden bed, the stream is continued. This time the stream ends in a pre-formed pond.

A Moss pond pump feeds water to a foam fountain nozzle which you can see slightly left of centre of the pond. The gentle sound of the fountain and the stream creates a really relaxing atmosphere.

A great job Tom, and thanks for sharing it with us.
