The Giant Water Lily is native to the tropical north of
Australia. The giant water lily makes a dramatic display in water gardens - it
is also found in eastern regions of Queensland and New South Wales. This lily
flourishes in deep water streams and pools secured by its fibrous roots - the
long hollow leaf stalks were used by the Aborigines as underwater breathing
